Waste Paper for the Blind

With Waste Paper for the blind Elena Costelian gathers slogans taken from the contemporary society and medias, sentences born with the political propaganda that are now shifted in the commercial world and that the artist collected in English, German and French language. Waste paper for the blind is a project that wants to research the semantics of slogans, the meaning of the word and on how a specific sentence can acquire different meanings accordingly to the context; a relevant issue in an historic moment when we are all overwhelmed by images and slogans. Which is the deepest meaning of a sentence? Which is the meaning for the artist, for me and for a public that lives in a different social, cultural and political context? Following this direction aimed to the search of sense and questioning the points of view, the artist wants to invite the public to relate with the book, through an appropriation of the slogans, posting them in different metropolitan areas. The artist then invites you to send her the photos of the intervention at wastpaperfortheblind@gmail.com. These interventions are going to be published on the blog and in this way they are going to create a participative installation connecting differenting cities in the world starting from Berlin, Paris and New York.
